Holiday in Rhodes Island, Greece

Rhodes is a Greek island, the biggest from the Dodecanese group, placed in the Eastern Agean Sea, closer to Turkey than Greece. The island has a reach historic culture and a lot of places to visit such that for a week holiday you will have plenty to do.
Rhodes City, placed in the northern part of the island, was best known for the “Colossus of Rhodes”, one of the Seven Wonders of Ancient World. Now it is considered one of the best preserved ancient castles because the Old Town is surrounded by the walls of the Palace of Grand Master.

The Old Town it is beautiful both by day and by night, with it’s crowded paved pedestrian streets, with souvenir shops and terraces that stretch down the street. You can have a break into Socrates Square or have dinner on a terrace.
Walking through Old Town you’ll see a muslim mosque with it’s minaret, sign of Ottoman occupation under Suleiman the Magnificent.

You cand visit the Clock Tower, wich is open by day and by night, and for a fee of 5 euros you’ll have a magnificent view over the Old Town and also a free drink at the bar.

Outside the Castle’s walls, on the north-eastern part of the island and close to the Old Town you can see the St. Nicholas Fort that guards the Mandraki harbor.
